9 Resonating Steps Of A SAHM's Night Out

If you're a stay-at-home mum, then the need to socialise and remember how to have actual conversations with other adults is a strong one. It takes weeks, if not months to make plans with your friends and throw something solid on the calendar. Your plans are always changing, and it's a miracle when you actually manage to stick to something without any disruption.

Being a stay-at-home mum can leave you feeling isolated and we all know that there are no days off. Having a child-free evening is an extremely rare event so when you're lucky enough to get one, you better believe that you make the most of it!

Here Are 9 Steps of a SAHM's Night Out That All Mums Can Relate To

1. The Pre-Game

You can't even remember the last time you went out and you're so excited that you have a glass or two whilst getting ready. You pull out that dress that you haven't worn since before you were pregnant and spend longer than ever before on your make-up because it's been so long since you've worn a full face of it that you've forgotten how to apply it.

2. Feeling Mum Guilt

Your little one is set to be cared for, but your child seems to sense that you're abandoning them for the evening. They start being extra clingy, making the guilty conscience start to kick in. You even consider cancelling your plans for a moment if they start to throw a wobbly because you feel terrible for going out without them.

3. The Meet-Up

You've arrived at the pub/bar, wherever you've chosen and are soon reunited with your pals. After 20 minutes of hugging and repeating how you can't believe you've all managed to escape on the same night, you're settled somewhere cosy and are deep into catch-up mode.

4. The Drinks

You order wine, cocktails, whatever your eye lands on, glad for the relief of finally getting a break from being a responsible adult for a few hours. It doesn't take long to start feeling the effects of the alcohol and you're slurring your words within 45 minutes of arriving.

5. The Selfies

You all head to the toilets together (obvs) once you've broken the seal, and the bathroom mirror is sooo Instagrammable that you all must take a selfie in it. Half an hour later and your camera roll is full of blurry, bathroom selfies of all of you, with the loos in the background and people entering and exiting the cubicles. Classy.

6. The Dancing

Once your confidence has grown and you realise how good the music is (or at least that's how it feels) either you convince them or they convince you to hit the dance floor. You're all pretty shit dancers, let's face it... but it feels so good to let loose and feel young and free again.

7. The Conversations

You reminisce about what life was like before you became a parent, and how much more free time you had that you miss terribly. You share updates on your kids and swap stories of how annoying they are but you're so proud of them of course. Everyone rates their tiredness level on a scale of 1 to 10.

8. The Goodbyes

The harsh truth that you're getting older hits you and you all start feeling emotional. You all vow to do this at least monthly to hold onto your youth, even though, let's face it, it might be another 6 months before you can make it happen again

9. The Hangover

You wake up wondering how on earth you used to manage to go out so often in your younger years, as you feel like hell on earth and wished you'd had an earlier night. Your partner is traumatised by seeing how drunk and crazy you ended up, your hangover is the worst one you've ever had and you need at least two business days to recover.
